Our Neighborhood, 10 Lightyears to the Inch
The Star Map Crystal is a cosmic paperweight:
a 3" glass cube laser etched with a 3D map of all stars within 5
parsecs of the sun.
Whether you're an astronomer, a science fiction reader, or just like
to know where you stand, this cube is essential equipment. If
yours is a spacefaring civilization, you need one.
The Star Map ships with a key describing each star and symbol.

Art, Science and Technology
Bathsheba Grossman is an internationally collected
artist, working with new and old technology to make sculptures in many
materials. Equally at home with modeling clay and
stereolithographic prototyping, she brings science and art together beautifully.
To draw this map, pulses from a focused laser beam are directed into
the blank glass. Each pulse of the beam passes freely through
the glass except at its focal point, where the concentrated energy
causes a tiny fracture. These microscopic sparkles catch the
light, forming a permanent map floating inside the crystal.

The star map ships with clear rubber feet, to avoid scratches on your desk or mantel. Without a stand, it works best against
a dark background.
